Booking.com Price Matcher
So you are in the process of booking your next adventure and need to book a hotel, hostel or that lovely villa overlooking the ocean. The issue I have always struggled with is finding the best deal for hotel and flight bookings. On average, I have 4 – 5 different websites open at any given time looking into what options there are as often the same accommodation will have different pricing based on the website.
A certain website such as Agoda or Expedia cannot be isolated to being either good or bad and therein lies the challenge. One website might have a fantastic deal on a specific hotel in relation to other competitor websites but on the other hand it might have a very poor offer on another website as compared to other competitor websites. Therefore it does not help to only have one “go-to” website as this might not be the best offer.
So how does one make sure you get the best deal, well I have found a way using the Booking.com website to ensure that even if I have booked using the site and later find that there are cheaper sites, I can match the price and still qualify for the saving. Here’s how:

Here is an example of a recently booked holiday to Thailand where there are literally endless combinations and booking possibilities. I booked this through Booking.com as they had the best pricing options however after completing the booking, I became aware of this tab (the green arrow is mine) “Found This Room Cheaper Elsewhere?”. It is located on the booking confirmation page once payment has been processed.
This provision has removed some of the risk in booking accommodation only to find that 2 days later it is massively cheaper on another site. If this happens the just click the link which will then load the following window:
In this window, you will be able to submit a claim for the accommodation that you found cheaper elsewhere. I have removed some of the dates and codes from this post but this illustrates what you will find in this window. Once you have ticked the grey boxes that relate to this claim, then you click the bottom right and submit the claim.
As with any product, terms and conditions do apply and before submitting a claim, you need to check a few things:
- The other offer must be for the same property and accommodation type.
- The other offer must be for the same check-in and check-out dates.
- The other offer must have the same cancellation policy and conditions.
When these 3 basic conditions are met then you are free to submit the claim. These are logical checks to make as it’s important to compare the exact same products otherwise the cost comparison will no longer be valid.
Take special note of the breakfast note on the cheaper booking that you found as some sites deliberately leave this as an optional extra to make the booking appear less expensive that competitor sites.
For obvious reasons, Booking.com will not refund everyone that has found a cheaper option as can be seen under the qualifying criteria section. However, in addition to having to meet the qualifying criteria, there is also a list of disqualification criteria namely:
- If the other offer is on a website that does not reveal the property of accommodation type until after the booking.
- If the other offer is part of a loyalty promotion or deal.
- If you current reservation is Booking.basic or if you are comparing with Booking.basic.
These 3 are really important so try to make sure that non of these are applicable otherwise the claim will not qualify.
Important Points to Remember
At any stage if this is unclear or you do not know what the next step should be, there is a customer care call centre that will be able to assist you. Its important when you find the cheaper accommodation that you copy and save the URL as this will serve as the basis for verification.
Booking.com will most likely ask you to log into the system so that all the information can be centrally collated however should you not have an account then you are able to use your booking number and pin to access all the needed information.
